St. Thomas Synagogue
This unassuming building with a sand floor was built in 1833 and helps tell the fascinating stories of Charlotte Amalie’s Jewish heritage. The official name of the Saint Thomas Synagogue is Beracha Veshalom Vegmiluth Hasidim, which means ‘blessing and peace and loving deeds.’ This building is the fourth synagogue on this site and was built in 1833.

St Thomas Reformed Church
The church was built in the style of a Roman temple, reflective of the fact that it was built

during the classical revival peri

od. The building has survived both hurricanes and

earthquakes, due at least in part of its interior lumber core, which is covered with

woodwork typical of the colonial period in the Caribbean.

Blackbeard’s Castle
Prepare to be taken aback by the imposing tower of Blackbeard’s castle that looms above you. Home to tales of skulduggery and warfare, this famous landmark is an unmissable piece of Charlotte Amalie’s history.
It was originally called Skytsborg Tower, meaning ‘gun tower’ in Danish. For several years, the tower was part of a private residence and was later the centrepiece of a hotel called the Inn at Blackbeard’s Castle.
